The current period of Belizean Literature is one that is marked by unconventionality. In this period, there is a rise in the use of unconventional language, including profanity, as well as a dramatic increase in the use of digital media as a means of publication. Works during this era are of a more personal and psychological nature than those of prior periods, but they also, like their antecedents, explore social issues such as crime, poverty, and racism. A noteworthy feature of the current period is that there is a profusion of very young authors publishing poems, short stories, and other forms of literature.
